The Dynasty Digest: March 29, 2025

Chris breaks down the notable perforamnces from MLB and AAA on Friday, March 28.

Two Opening Days in the book. MLB on Thursday and Triple-A Opening Day on Friday. This time next week, all Minor League levels will be back in action.

If you are unfamiliar with the Dynasty Digest, it is a daily newsletter covering the previous days’ action. While the main focus is usually Minor League Baseball, I will also be hitting on MLB performances to know as well.

While your here, be sure to check out our new rankings that dropped this week.

With that being said, let’s get to the action. The Dynasty Digest for Saturday, March 29.

The Dynasty Digest, March 29, 2025

Ryan Pepiot, RHP, Tampa Bay Rays

Pepiot’s first start of 2025 had a chance to go south pretty quickly, but he settled in nicely after allowing an unearned and an earned run in the third and fourth innings. He finished the day with a line of six innings with six hits allowed, while walking one. Pepiot allowed just one earned run and struck out eight batters while generating 16 whiffs.

The fastball led the way, averaging 95.3 mph and topping out near 97 mph. Pepiot creates an exceptional ride on the pitch and spins it well. The changeup is where the whiffs came from, though, as he generated eight on 13 swings. The pitch averaged 85 mph and had 15 inches of arm-side fade with good depth.

Pepiot threw his slider and cutter efficiently and even threw a couple of two-plane curveballs. It could be a big year for Pepiot, given the arsenal and bat-missing ability. He showed in the first start that pitching his home games in a hitter-friendly Steinbrenner Field may not be an issue, especially when you can run a 33 percent whiff rate.

Mookie Betts, SS, Los Angeles Dodgers

After being unable to eat for nearly three weeks and keep food down, Betts lost substantial weight. Down to 157 pounds from his listed 180, there were certainly concerns about Betts and his ability to perform this year.

Betts quieted any concerns there might be as he collected three hits, including two home runs. His eighth-inning blast gave the Dodgers the lead at the time before the game was later tied and went into the tenth inning. After Will Smith and Shohei Ohtani singles, Betts walked it off with a three-run home run to end the game.

While he did not light up the exit velocity leaderboard, with both home runs leaving the bat at 96 and 97 mph, Betts still put two in the home run column. He looks to be fine performance-wise.
