The Dynasty Digest: March 28, 2025

We are back! Opening Day is in the books, and there is plenty to discuss. If you are unfamiliar with the Dynasty Digest, it is a daily newsletter covering the previous days’ action. While the main focus is usually Minor League Baseball, I will also be hitting on MLB performances to know as well.

With that being said, let’s get to the action. The Dynasty Digest for Friday, March 28th.

The Dynasty Digest, Opening Day Edition

Mackenzie Gore, LHP, Washington Nationals

Do you wanna see utter dominance? Gore was it as he fired six scoreless innings on Opening Day with just one hit and zero walks allowed. He struck out 13 and generated a daily best 20 whiffs.

Gore pounded the zone with his four-seam fastball, which worked around 96 mph and topped at 98. He saw increased IVB and averaged 19 inches and topped at 22 inches. Six of his 20 whiffs came on the four-seam fastball.

The slider had an 80 percent whiff rate, which is a new-look pitch for him this year. Gore is now throwing it with much more depth and around four mph less velocity. Using it at a 25 percent rate on Thursday, it was Gore’s most used secondary.

Gore rounded out his arsenal with his low-80s curveball and his mid-80s changeup, both showing solid bat-missing ability. He even threw a few cutters that played more like his slider did last season.

A hot start is not a new thing for Gore, though. Through his first 11 starts of 2024, Gore had a 2.91 ERA that a 2.84 FIP backed. In June, Gore blew up twice for six and five earned run starts while sprinkling in a dazzling seven-inning, one-run, and ten-strikeout performance.

While there were rough patches, Gore finished his 2024 season with a 1.55 ERA across his final 40.2 innings with 45 strikeouts. If he can stay consistent all year, Gore has the potential to be a top-20 arm for fantasy purposes. I have been buying all offseason and still would be even after the start.
