The Dynasty Digest: April 10, 2025

Chris recaps the action around the baseball world from top Minor League Baseball standouts to the stars in the majors.

Welcome back! It is hard to believe it is Thursday, and another week of baseball is flying by. The first full-week series of minor league baseball is underway, and there is plenty to take away. I have been around the ballpark regularly since the start of the Minor League season and will even have some amateur looks this weekend covering some high school prospects for the MLB Draft.

But first, let’s recap what happened across the entire landscape of pro baseball yesterday. If you are unfamiliar with the Dynasty Digest, it is a daily newsletter covering the previous days’ action. While the main focus is usually Minor League Baseball, I will also be hitting on MLB performances to know as well.

Free Minor League Baseball Recap Previews

Each day, I will pick a hitter and pitcher who stands out and deserves the top spot on the sheet. Those player’s reports will be free for all to read. The rest will be paywalled for Dynasty Dugout Subscribers. The article is around 3000 words, giving you detailed player reports to encapsulate everything you need to know.

Blake Adams, RHP, Colorado Rockies, 24, AA

The most dominant performance of the day across the minors belonged to Blake Adams of the Rockies, who was nearly perfect through five innings, not allowing a hit, and only walking one batter. Adams punched out 11 batters and generated 22 whiffs, which was by far the highest number around the minor leagues.

Speaking with someone with Hartford, Adams was: “The best player on the field yesterday in an amazing start.” Facing off against Binghamton, the Mets Double-A affiliate, the lineup had plenty of strong hitters in Jett Williams, Nick Morabito, Ryan Clifford, Nick Lorusso, and Kevin Parada. It didn’t phase Adams, though, who needed just 77 pitches to dominate his scoreless five innings.

Adams throws from a tough release points for hitters and hides the ball well. Having a deep arsenal of pitches, Adams can miss bats at the top of the zone with a riding four-seam fastball and then dump in a vertical breaking curve to keep hitters on their toes.

He also mixed in a changeup, cutter, and slider. Flying under the radar, Adams posted a 2.91 ERA last season across 127 innings. He walked less than five percent of batters while striking out 24 percent. Adams pounds the zone and has a deep arsenal and while he is a Rockies arm, he is probably being underrated in this system.

C.J. Kayfus, 1B, Cleveland Guardians, 23, AA

Have a game, C.J.! Kayfus has been swinging a hot bat to start the 2025 season, and Wednesday’s performance was just a continuation of that as he collected four hits and wound up just a triple shy of the cycle. After a first-inning single, Kayfus returned to the plate in the second inning and proceeded to blast a two-run homer. Then, in the fourth, he added a double but unfortunately did not get his needed triple to complete the cycle.

In a small 24-plate appearance sample, Kayfus is slashing .524/.583/.857 with a home run and seven RBI. The fascinating thing is despite just a 16.7 percent strikeout rate; there has been a lot of whiff in his game. The early contact rate is just 63 percent, which is something to watch.

Kayfus won’t light up the exit velocity leaderboard, but due to his upper-cut swing and the ability to pull a large portion of fly balls, Kayfus will put up home runs. Kayfus split time between High-A and Double-A in 2024, slashing .291/.393/.511 with 17 home runs and 49 extra-base hits in 107 games.
