Starting Pitcher Streamers 5/6-5/12

Michael Simione breaks down all the pitching streamers that you need to know for this weeks slate of games.

One of my favorite sports to play is golf and if you play golf you know that it is a very mentally difficult sport to play. You could play three holes extremely well and then the next hole you could be the worst golfer in the world.

Well, this weekend I went out for a round and it did not go well for any hole. The front nine was probably my worst in years. But when I got to the back nine I told myself to step back for a minute, breathe, collect my thoughts, and pretend that I was starting over.

It certainly helped as my back nine was better, still not great, but better. Sometimes it’s good to take a step back from things, breathe, and think positively. It can help you move forward with whatever you are doing.

John Means made his 2024 debut yesterday and he pitched really well against the Reds in Cincinnati. He did everything you wanted to see, his velocity was good, he induced 19 whiffs, and he had a 39 CSW%. He wasn’t drafted much and if he is somehow out there on the wire I would be grabbing him.

As a Mets fan you know I have to mention our new ace Christian Scott. Scott was able to showcase all of his offerings as he utilized his four-seam, sweeper, and slider really well. He has a total of 18 whiffs with eight of them coming from his four-seam. Scott is a very exciting prospect and I am all in on him.

Analysis and Backup Options

Monday 5/6

Streamer of the Day

Our streaming last week was a mixed bag and I tried picking on the bad offenses in the league. I’m going to continue that trend for this pick though because Andrew Heaney takes on the Athletics and he has strikeout upside. His 23.9 K-BB% in the last two weeks is fantastic and the A’s strikeout a good amount against LHP.

Strikeout Upside

Andrew Heaney and Kenta Maeda.

Ratio Play (High Floor)

Andrew Heaney, Kenta Maeda, and Sean Manaea.

Win/QS Potential

Andrew Heaney.

If I Had to Rank The Top Five

  1. Andrew Heaney at OAK

  2. Kenta Maeda at CLE

  3. Sean Manaea at STL

  4. Kyle Gibson vs NYM

  5. Bryse Wilson at KCR

Tuesday 5/7

Streamer of the Day

There are a couple of solid options for Tuesday but I am going to roll with the hot hand in Patrick Sandoval against the Pirates. He has a 2.57 SIERA over the last two weeks and an above-average K-BB%. His Stuff+ ranking for the season is solid and his two breaking balls are lethal when he is on.

Strikeout Upside

Patrick Sandoval, Logan Allen, and Jack Leiter if he gets the call.

Ratio Play (High Floor)

Patrick Sandoval.

Win/QS Potential

Logan Allen, Jack Leiter, Patrick Sandoval, and Miles Mikolas.

If I Had to Rank The Top Five

  1. Patrick Sandoval at PIT

  2. Logan Allen vs DET

  3. Jack Leiter at OAK

  4. Jose Butto at STL

  5. Miles Mikolas vs NYM

Wednesday 5/8

Streamer of the Day

I decided to go with Chris Paddack in Seattle for Wednesday. It is a bit risky but he has shown fantastic command and he looked really good in his start against Boston. The Mariners have been one of the worst swing-and-miss teams of the league so far so worst case Paddack will get you some strikeouts.

Strikeout Upside

Chris Paddack, Michael Lorenzen, and Reese Olson.

Ratio Play (High Floor)

Chris Paddack, Michael Lorenzen, and Reese Olson.

Win/QS Potential

Chris Paddack, Michael Lorenzen, and Reese Olson.

If I Had to Rank The Top Five

  1. Chris Paddack vs SEA

  2. Michael Lorenzen at OAK

  3. Reese Olson at CLE

  4. JP Sears vs TEX

  5. Jose Quintana at STL

Thursday 5/9

Streamer of the Day

We have three options for today, yes only three. Luckily one of them is a good option and that is Ben Lively in Chicago against the White Sox. Lively worked well for us yesterday so let’s rely on him one more time.

Strikeout Upside

Ben Lively and Slade Cecconi.

Ratio Play (High Floor)

Ben Lively.

Win/QS Potential

Ben Lively.

If I Had to Rank The Top Five

  1. Ben Lively at CHW

  2. Slade Cecconi at CIN

  3. Cal Quantrill vs SFG

Friday 5/10

Streamer of the Day

This might come as a shock but I am going with Dane Dunning in Colorado. The Rockies offense isn’t scary anywhere right now. They have a 27 wRC+ in the last seven days and an insane 15.2 SwStr%. You have to stream against them when possible.

Strikeout Upside

Dane Sunning, Griffin Canning, and Alec Marsh.

Ratio Play (High Floor)

Dane Dunning and Alec Marsh.

Win/QS Potential

Dane Dunning and Alec Marsh.

If I Had to Rank The Top Five

  1. Dane Dunning at COL

  2. Alec Marsh at LAA

  3. Griffin Canning vs KCR

  4. Trevor Rogers vs PHI

  5. Case Mize vs HOU

Saturday 5/11

Streamer of the Day

This was a tough day to decide who I wanted to stream for the day. Everyone here has been so up and down so it’s really a shot in the dark. I am giving the edge to Joe Boyle. His Stuff+ ranking for the season is above-average we just have to hope the control is there. He takes on the Mariners who I stated before strikes out a lot as an offense.

Strikeout Upside

Joe Boyle, Bailey Falter, and Kyle Gibson.

Ratio Play (High Floor)

Joe Boyle and Bailey Falter.

Win/QS Potential

Joe Boyle and Taijuan Walker.

If I Had to Rank The Top Five

  1. Joe Boyle at SEA

  2. Bailey Falter vs CHC

  3. Taijuan Walker at MIA

  4. Kyle Gibson at MIL

  5. Cooper Criswell vs WSH

Sunday 5/12

Streamer of the Day

Logan Allen gets a sweet matchup against the White Sox. Allen is a LHP and on the season the White Sox have a 46 wRC+ and 27.1 K% when facing left-handed pitching. This is a split stats dream and I am going to roll with it.

Strikeout Upside

Logan Allen, Andrew Heaney, and Sean Manaea.

Ratio Play (High Floor)

Logan Allen and Dean Kremer.

Win/QS Potential

Logan Allen, Dean Kremer, and Andrew Heaney.

If I Had to Rank The Top Five

  1. Logan Allen at CHW

  2. Andrew Heaney at COL

  3. Dean Kremer vs ARI

  4. Sean Manaea vs ATL

  5. Colin Reas vs STL
