Dynasty FAAB and Waiver Report: April 4, 2025

Utilizing the waiver wire is critical to success in a dynasty league. If you look even at my top 100 prospects, many players were waiver wire adds for most leagues. This statement is even more true for pitchers. Pitching prospects pop up all the time, and you can build a great farm system. So, let’s talk about some players to target and the league types to target them in. As Minor Leagues get underway, more prospects will be discussed in future weeks.

It is probably good to first explain, what is FAAB or a waiver wire? FAAB is an acronym for Free Agent Acquisition Budget which is a way that you can add players to your team’s roster. Usually, FAAB runs once a week, and for a lot of leagues it is on Sunday nights.

Budgets usually vary per league. The standard is usually $1,000, but I also play in some leagues where there is a $100 and $200 budget. For that purpose, in this article, I will give you a percentage each week for how much to bid on a player.

Budgeting your money is important. Most leagues will have between 24 and 27 weeks that FAAB can run. That means you can spend approximately four percent of your original budget each week.

As you spend money each week bidding on players, your budget will decrease. It is important to find a balance, especially in a dynasty league, because you never know when a player might get dropped or you want to grab the hot prospect popping up.

I always have a hard time answering questions early in the season regarding how much to spend on players. The most important thing you can do is know your league’s tendencies and how they bid. Other players will be watching you so be sure you mix up how you bid.

How you use your money is important. Remember Trevor Hauver? Probably not. In 2021, he came out and hit six home runs in his first five games of the season. Everyone went crazy and spent big FAAB on him in week one, and he went on to hit just .258 with nine home runs for the rest of the season. He was never a relevant prospect.

Being able to decipher whether a player is legit or not is huge. Don’t overspend on small sample performances. At the end of the day, there will be a spring training or a one- to two-week MLB sample. Looking under the hood and being able to decipher what is real and what is not.

The nice thing about saving some money for later in the season is being able to stash players for dynasty leagues in 2025. Players that have Tommy John or top prospects that could debut next year. So stay balanced and keep some dollars for later in the season.
