Beck's Minor League Threecap: 7/12/2024
Triumphant returns from injury and an unsightly showing for the table
Hi, all, welcome back. It’s very late and I’m doing all I can to muster a Threecap but it’s going to be more brief than usual.
Brock’em Sock’em Baseballs.
Brock Wilken (MIL) poked two home runs in a 2-for-5 night at the dish, a welcome sight as he’s starting to find his footing at Double-A. He’s slashed .257/.366/.629 and walloped four home runs over his last 9 games. I’ve been willing to grant him a little leniency after he took a pitch to the face in early April, but it’s been a bit of a slog (and understandably so) thus far. He’s currently running a 26.2% K-rate at Double-A, which is probably fine given the power he possesses but it sure would be nice if that figure improved.
I’ve Written About Jobe Too Often For A Pun.
Jackson Jobe (DET) has been on a tear since returning from a hamstring strain he suffered on May 1st. He’s allowed just three earned runs and held opponents to a .438 OPS-against in his five appearances since rejoining the active roster. It’s been 19.0 innings in total, no outing longer than 5.0 or 82 pitches, and he’s managed to strike out 24 hitters in that time (33.8%). He’s still building back up, and of course the injuries are a little concerning, but as long as they aren’t arm or shoulder ailments I’m as high on him as anybody. I think there’s some enthusiasm around Noah Schultz as the top pitching prospect in baseball, but I’d still have Jobe in the conversation. He went 5.0 scoreless on Thursday and struck out eight.
Seymour Walks Than Strikeouts.
The table started out so promising with Vrieling and Jobe but got progressively uglier. You should have seen my reaction to every line I pulled up. I’m sure it would have been amusing.
