Beck's Minor League Threecap: 6/14/2024
Beck breaks down three major things you need to know from yesterday's MiLB action.
Hey y’all! I’m getting started on this way, way too late after spending the evening celebrating a friend’s 30th birthday at the Twins/A’s game. It was a phenomenal time; the Twins won on a walk off and I got to witness both Mason Miller and Jhoan Duran in person. You’ll have to excuse my brevity – I want to make sure I stay awake long enough to get this in inboxes for the morning. Enjoy!
Keaschall Term.
Sometimes you’re a day early. At least I mentioned that I hoped Wednesday’s 3-for-5 night would be the start of a hot streak for Echedry Vargas (TEX), who went on to swat a pair of home runs in a second consecutive three-hit effort yesterday. Maybe his wrist is done barking and he’s going to start getting to some of the in-game power. That would be nice!
Luke Keaschall (MIN) is quickly becoming a personal favorite. He slotted in at #100 on my June update and has only risen since. I’m a little skeptical of his damage on contact but everything else looks great from an offensive perspective and I think he profiles really strongly specifically in points formats that penalize for strikeouts. He’s currently riding a 6-game hit streak, his third longest of the early season, and punctuated that stretch with a 4-for-5 night on Thursday that included a home run and a double.
Kohl’s Cash.
This is my third time writing about Kohl Drake (TEX) and frankly I find him very confusing. That is, his usage is weird and I’m pretty uncertain whether he’s being stretched out as a starter or just a long reliever, regardless he’s posting pretty ridiculous numbers while operating in three-to-four inning stints. He’s sitting with a 1.95 ERA through 37.0 innings on the year and has dispensed of 41.2% of all batters by way of strikeout. The 6-foot-5, 220-pound lefty had one of his strongest outings of the year on Thursday, going 5.0 scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts and just one walk.
Samuel Aldegheri (PHI) allowed just four baserunners over 6.0 scoreless innings and struck out nine on Thursday. It was his fifth start of six innings or more and his fourth with nine or more strikeouts (he has one other with eight and an additional three with seven). He’s working extraordinarily deep and having a ton of success both metrically and in terms of on-the-field run prevention. This is his third Threecap appearance (I think, but also it’s 1:30 AM and probably not the best use of my time to figure out exactly how many times he’s been blurbed), here’s what I had to say previously:
Samuel Aldegheri back on the Threecap for his second consecutive outing, which should tip you off to the fact that he’s been excellent this year. Through 22.0 cumulative innings with High-A Jersey Shore he’s racked up 28 strikeouts and allowed just one earned run while averaging almost eighty pitches and over five innings a start. He’s had a slew of injuries that have cut his minor-league workload short since his signing in 2019, but he’s healthy and looking to prove he can eclipse his career high innings count.
Giving a Serwin.
This was an all time good day for the table. Look at all those zeroes! Look at all those ones! Incredible stuff. Yorman Galindez has been nails over his last five starts (21.1 innings of 1.27 ERA ball with 35 strikeouts), Samuel Aldegheri bounced back from a couple of 4 ER starts, and Adam Serwinowski lowered his season ERA to 2.82 with Daytona.
