2025 Top Catchers for Dynasty Fantasy Baseball

We won’t get too deep into the analysis because the reality is you know most everything you need to know to about the Major Leaguers at this point. Prospects are where the true writeups and reports are needed.

Tier 1: William Contreras

At this point, it is hard to argue with anyone in the top tier with Contreras. The power metrics are off the chart, and he makes enough contact to consistently run good batting averages. Over the last two years, Contreras has a wRC+ that is 12 points higher than the next closest qualified catcher.

Sure, he won’t put up home run totals like Cal Raleigh, but you can count on consistency in all fantasy categories and even get some stolen bases. Considering he just turned 27 years old, Contreras's best days still might be ahead of him.

Tier 2: Yainer Diaz, Adley Rutschman, Cal Raleigh

Diaz is one of the more perplexing profiles to look at in the majors, given a league-worst chase rate and the fact he has walked at a 3.5 percent clip the last two seasons. He hits the ball incredibly hard but also has ran a 48.3 percent ground ball rate. Diaz’s in-zone contact rates are among the top of all catchers, which helps negate some of his chase issues. You can count on a solid batting average and good home run totals from Diaz, who is entering his age 26 season.

Rutschman is a tough one. There is a lot of name value here, but also plenty of talent. It would be easy to call 2024 a “down year,” but Rutschman still hit 19 home runs and slashed .250/.318/.391. His barrel rate did dip 1.5 percentage points, and there were some launch angle inconsistencies, but the talent is still there. Rutschman makes high-end contact and is still a 20 home run bat. Buy low if you can.

Raleigh mashes and is coming off his second straight 30-home run season, which would likely be three if he had more than 415 plate appearances in 2022. A 15.4 percent barrel rate is among the best in all of baseball. Sure, Raleigh comes with a low batting average, but if you are in an OBP league, he plays even better. He is 28 and the power likely won’t come crashing down anytime soon.
